Jobseekers advised not to use CV cliches
Employers are turned off by the use of tired and cliched phrases in CVs, jobseekers have been told.

New research from the TheLadders.co.uk has found that recruiters view many of the terms that commonly crop up in job applications as lazy and uninspiring, reports Online Recruitment.

Over-used words such as 'reliable', 'resourceful' and 'self-motivated' are unlikely to grab the reader's attention, the employers surveyed said.

In addition, they noted that the use of phrases like 'seeks a challenge' and 'adventurous' can also cause an application to be discounted as they indicate that the candidate gets bored easily.

"It's incredible how one word can communicate the wrong notion on your CV," Sarah Drew, general manager of TheLadders.co.uk, commented.

"Empty words on your CV are seen as vague claims that disguise faults, what you should be doing is showcasing your achievements," she stated.

Another common mistake that job applicants make is listing their work duties rather than detailing past accomplishments on their CV, according to a recent iProfile poll.
