The UK jobs market is still in good shape, an expert from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has said.
John Philpot, the CIPD's chief economist, spoke to BBC Radio Five Live's Wake Up To Money following the release of yesterday's report by the body in collaboration with KPMG.
The study discovered that in January, a fifth of firms were found to be considering making employees redundant - an increase from previous months.
However, Mr Philpot remarked: "There's still more hiring than firing so obviously on balance the story is still good.
"The job market has been one of the great success stories of recent years."
On the subject of migrant workers Mr Philpot stated that the influx of foreign workers could prevent a high unemployment rate during the economic slowdown.
"There is no doubt that migrant workers in the UK have affected both pay and the employment situation," he told the news source.
