The UK engineering and manufacturing sector has seen a period of strong growth recently, new figures have indicated.
Employment data from Roevin and Mandis Business Intelligence has revealed that 1,090 new jobs were created in the industry during last month, Online Recruitment magazine reports.
The research also discovered that this reflected an increase of 60 per cent compared to a year earlier.
Managing director of Roevin Keith Gallagher noted: "The figures from this month's research are extremely positive for the engineering and manufacturing sectors, and highlight an upsurge in job demand across a number of industry areas."
According to Mr Gallagher, the manufacturing sector in the UK has had a very successful 12 months and is likely to have boosted employment in the industry.
The chemicals, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology arenas have also seen a considerable jobs boost, he added.
Earlier this week, north-east engineering bosses called for more skills to be developed in the local workforce.
