There are a number of positions available in the technology sector for jobseekers, one expert has said.
According to Maggie Berry, director of womenintechnology.co.uk, the industry offers a variety of career paths for job hunters.
"There are so many different ways you can get involved with the industry and due to widespread skill shortages there are a big range of opportunities available," she said.
Furthermore, Ms Berry described the sector as "innovative and ever-evolving".
Employees can directly impact on the success of a business by using "cutting edge technology" which means a job in the industry has the potential to be very rewarding, she added.
Figures from the British Computer Society revealed that in 2004 only 14 per cent of its members were female.
And less than 30 per cent of IT and computer science lecturers at UK universities are women.
