Jobseekers hoping to go into the teaching profession may want to consider a career in the maths and science sector as people are always required for these subjects, it has been claimed.
According to the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA), applications for primary level teaching are "extremely popular" meaning that it is a very competitive market.
However, because there are fewer people in the country with maths or science degrees, more people are needed to train for these areas.
A spokesperson for the TDA said: "Around each year, they need to recruit around 40, 000 people into teacher training, just to make sure that there's a constant flow over time."
Figures from the TDA have revealed that applications to teacher training between September 1st 2008 and February 3rd 2009 are up by 10.7 per cent compared to the previous year.
