Jaguar Land Rover staff vote for year-long pay freeze

In an effort to save jobs, employees at Jaguar Land Rover have voted to have a shorter working week and a year-long pay freeze.
The deal was supported by around 70 per cent of Unite and GMB union members and will help to avoid compulsory job cuts.
As a result, production will be limited to four days and it is hoped the company could save around £70 million.
A spokesperson for Unite said: "The choice for our members was clear: further mass redundancies or what is undoubtedly some short-term pain to secure the future for our members and their families."
Over 1,750 agency, management and production jobs have already been cut at the car manufacturer due to falling sales in recent months.
The Trades Union Congress and the Federation of Small Businesses recently suggested that the government should pay 60 per cent of wages and National Insurance contributions firms who have to introduce reduced working hours.
