IT professionals are unlikely to lose their jobs in the near future despite the uncertain economic climate, according to one expert.
Sarah Berry, author of Write a Perfect CV in a Weekend and How to Love the Job You Do, described IT positions as "fairly secure at the moment".
Furthermore, employees lacking a strong knowledge of IT ought to improve their skills in this area, she said.
At a time when job security may be an issue in some industries, Ms Berry called for employees to advance their abilities.
"You've really got to safeguard your career and become a more valuable asset to the company," she remarked.
And companies will want to use the skills of their current workforce rather than hire external sources to complete important tasks, she added.
IT security professionals, software testers, network engineers, web designers and computer programmers or developers have all been listed in the top ten most credit crunch proof jobs by the Learning and Skills Council.
