Graduates of IT courses are most likely to start their career in London, it has been suggested.
According to the director for the InterQuest Group, David Bevan, most IT positions are based in the capital because most companies establish their headquarters in London, ComputerWeekly reports.
"Graduates tend to establish themselves in a career in London and then take their skills out to other regions," he noted.
However, not all industries are based in the capital, Mr Bevan commented, with jobs in retail more likely to be regional, which may appeal to those graduates who do not want to move to the south-east.
He added that while more firms are spreading out of London, it is unlikely London's "dominance" will be challenged.
Applications to IT jobs increased by 17 per cent over January and February compared with the last three months of 2007, CV Screen discovered recently.
