Businesses in the UK rank experience over qualifications when hiring IT managers, according to new research.
A survey by the British Computer Society (BCS) has found that 88 per cent of organisations stated that it was the experience of their IT managers that was most important to them, while just 41 per cent said that IT qualifications were most vital.
The BCS survey also revealed that the majority of British companies (69 per cent) did not offer professional developmental training for their IT staff.
David Clarke, BCS chief executive, commented: "It is vital for British organisations to better gauge IT management skills using exacting qualification benchmarks.
"Broad experience is no longer as relevant as it was as IT progresses towards more defined delivery roles and working within tighter budgetary constraints.
"Especially as qualifying bodies like BCS are now offering highly exacting methods to measure and fit individuals to specific IT management roles, which is vital for a prospering business or organisation."
