IT contractors warned not to lie to get jobs
IT contractors struggling to find work have been warned not to risk losing a position by lying on their CVs.

According to Contractor UK, the number of job offers made to such freelance IT staff declined by 75 per cent in the run up to Christmas.

This was at a steeper rate than in any other profession.

Now, staff screening firm Powerchex has warned those looking for employment that they "should not risk losing a good opportunity by exaggerating their credentials" because they are desperate for work during the recession.

Instead, chief executive of the firm Alexandra Kelly says jobseekers should "adjust their expectations" and take "a more structured approach" to their search for employment.

A spokesman for ClickAJob reinforces this perspective, confirming that lies on a CV are the career equivalent of certain death.

"Jobseekers should keep in mind that HR people are just as much on the hook as they are to ensure that CVs are accurate, genuine and truthful," he says.

"All details will be checked – it's part of due diligence and required by law anyway," he continues.

"If feelings get desperate, it is better to rethink a CV to suit a role outside IT than be caught out as a liar and blacklisted for the rest of your career."

In the opinion of Interviewgold.com, a good CV and the right attitude in an interview is essential for those looking for employment during the economic downturn.
