More than half of Britain's IT contractors expect a pay rise of at least ten per cent in 2007, a survey from IT contractor accountant service JSA has revealed.
The inflation-beating pay rise was cited by 58 per cent of JSA clients surveyed, with a third of these expecting to gain a rise of 15 per cent or more in their take-home pay this year.
However, while contractors were optimistic about their pay rates, they were less optimistic about the IT contractor sector as a whole, with 50 per cent believing that it would remain static and nine per cent believing that it will shrink.
Barry Roback, chief executive of JSA, said: "IT contractors have a strong sense of their own self worth, and the fact that they expect inflation-busting pay rises, is probably a realistic assessment of their current market position."
Respondents were generally satisfied with their roles, with 77 per cent rating themselves as seven above on a scale of happiness, with ten meaning 'extremely happy'.
However, 61 per cent said they would like to work less hours, with almost half saying that they want to spend more time with their families.
