Jobs in the banking and finance sector have decreased considerably over the first month of January, the latest employment index has revealed.
According to Monster, the insurance and legal industries also suffered from large reductions in the availability of jobs.
In fact, all sectors suffered decreases as the index reported an overall drop of 14 points to 160, following two months of solid growth.
Managing director of Monster UK and Ireland Julian Acquari remained positive despite the figures.
"Although there are signs that employers in select industries such as finance and accounting have scaled back on their recruiting following the turmoil in global credit markets, the underlying demand for labour remained strong in the UK job market at the onset of the new year," he said.
Specialist finance recruiter Nigel Lynn recently claimed that the public sector will have an increased need for financiers as it switches over to international financial reporting standards.
