Travelodge has announced that it is to open 40 new hotels each year up to 2020, potentially creating 10,000 new jobs in the sector.
Beginning in 2008, the hotel firm's programme of expansion - estimated to cost in the region of £3.5 billion - is aimed at capturing a ten per cent share of the UK's market.
Commenting on the move, Grant Hearn, chief executive officer of Travelodge, said that in other industry sectors, "mass-market brands" such as Tesco would aim to achieve that kind of market share.
"Travelodge's growth strategy is designed to deliver the same strong market position. We expect to serve around 20 million customers by the end of this programme," he remarked.
Claiming to be the fastest growing hotel chain in the UK, Travelodge recently stated that it had opened one in every three new hotel rooms in the UK last year.
