About 500 new jobs are set to be created in Fermoy, County Cork after a major firm announced the takeover of Bupa Ireland this week.
Quinn Group, which has interests in the manufacturing, financial services and property sectors, will now enter the health insurance market through the takeover, adding hundreds of new jobs under the Quinn Healthcare name.
A new office facility will be built in Fermoy as a result of the expansion, which will be capable of holding up to 800 employees in total.
"We are very excited about entering the health insurance market and believe the acquisition of Bupa Ireland Limited gives us a fantastic platform to become the leading health insurer in Ireland," commented Quinn Group chairman Sean Quinn.
Earlier this week, software firm DeCare Systems announced plans to create 100 new jobs in Cork by expanding its operations at the University Technology Centre.
