Health professionals such as nurses and midwives are finding it increasingly hard to secure a job after graduating from university, it has been suggested.
According to figures obtained by the Liberal Democrats, the number of unemployed nurses and midwives six months after leaving university has risen considerably.
The party stated that over the last three years this figure has increased by 80 per cent.
"It's time for the government to put in place a long-term workforce strategy that prevents this feast or famine approach to NHS recruitment," Liberal Democrat shadow health secretary Norman Lamb said.
Mr Lamb noted that health workers are losing faith in the recruitment system.
Falling morale in the health service is also notable, he added.
Recently, the Trades Union Congress suggested that government funding cuts to public services would mean many workers in the sector would be forced to "accept pay deals".
