Payroll errors have been experienced by over half of employees, new figures have discovered.
Research conducted by ADP Employer Services and YouGov has found that despite payroll problems affecting so many workers, one in five said they would not notice if a mistake had been made.
ADP freedom director Ian Sparrow commented that the issue affects both staff and employees.
He said: "Payroll errors could not only cause both employers and employees to be out of pocket, they also cost payroll and HR [human resources] professionals' time in rectifying problems.
"Employers should encourage employees to consistently check this information and educate them on what to look out for."
Three-quarters of workers admitted that they do not understand the information that is contained on their pay slip. However, the survey discovered that underpayment is the most likely error to occur.
