The government is to hold a meeting to discuss a crackdown on the number of deaths that occur in the workplace.
Referring specifically to deaths on building sites, which has seen a 28 per cent increase over the last 12 months, the discussion has been arranged by Peter Hain MP.
As the work and pensions secretary, it has been reported that Mr Hain will call the increase in the number of deaths "unacceptable".
"77 people were killed last year and it was a big jump by over a quarter on the deaths the previous year," he commented.
Furthermore, Mr Hain added that there was a general consensus on ridding the house building market of informal economy.
The meeting is to be held employers, unions and safety officials, the publication states.
Last week, a government crackdown on rogue employment agencies was announced, in a bid to protect vulnerable workers from being taken advantage of.
