The jobs market in the east of England is continuing to expand due to a strong demand for workers.
A report from the East of England Development Agency (EEDA), carried out by NTC Research, found that demand for both permanent and temporary staff remained high in the third quarter of 2006.
Demand for permanent workers was particularly high in the nursing and medical care workers sector while temporary staff were found to be in high demand in engineering and construction.
Jack Kennedy, economist at NTC and author of the report, said: "The East of England posted a strong rise in demand for staff in Q3, with permanent staff vacancies increasing at the sharpest rate for six years."
While the number of permanent workers available to meet demand fell slightly in the third quarter of the year, the availability of temporary staff increased, thanks mainly to an influx of migrant workers from Eastern Europe.
The quarter also saw average salaries for permanent staff rising for the 12th quarter in a row.
