One global firm is using the economic downturn as an opportunity to focus on the needs to its existing staff, it has been reported.
According to Personnel Today, Google is currently experiencing a slower hiring period because of the recession.
As a result, it is moving its existing employees around different departments within the firm so they can gain experience of working in various areas.
Liane Hornsey, people operations director at Google, said: "We're slowing down our hiring.
"It is critical that we increase opportunities. I'm shaking the organisation up and deliberately moving people."
She added that making these changes will also help to keep staff morale high after 200 job cuts were announced by the company last month.
Meanwhile, McDonalds has recently announced that it will be creating 6,000 new jobs for the long-term unemployed by extending its Local Employment Partnership pilot scheme.
