Google has unveiled plans to allow web-based businesses to customise a hosted site search service for $100 (£49) a year.
The internet search engine giant's venture, aimed primarily at small and medium-sized enterprises, increases the number of markets it is competing in with Microsoft.
Google already offers a free advert-supported service that allows internet users to search within specific sites, but the Google Custom Search Business Edition is fully customisable.
For $100 firms can index up to 5,000 pages, while 50,000 pages can be bought for $500 (£245).
"We have transformed the market with our Google appliance," Matthew Glotzbach, director of product management for Google told CNet.
"This is a leap forward in the site search market."
In recent months Google has continued its spread into territory traditionally dominated by Microsoft with the launch of its own email, organiser and word processing services.
Jim Murphy, an analyst at AMR Research, commented that the Californian firm's latest move was "ultimately a threat to Microsoft".
