Graduates may find that the selection process for teaching is to become more difficult in the near future, following the release of a new report.
According to the Institute for Public Policy Research (ippr), poor secondary school teachers can mean that many students fail to pass GCSEs.
A report by the ippr has found that bad teaching practice can make the difference between achieving a grade C or D at GCSE level.
Thus a tougher selection process for the hiring of teachers has been suggested by the organisation.
Lead author of the report and ippr associate director Julia Margo remarked that the top graduates are not being attracted to the teaching profession.
"Improving the recruitment and professional development of teachers would enable schools to improve or replace poor performing teachers," she suggested.
Government figures released recently revealed that the number of teachers has increased over the last 12 months.
