The job market has seen a rise in the demand for employees who can speak Gaelic, new research shows.
According to a survey conducted by Hecla Consulting, 81 per cent of employers who responded said they had job vacancies for which speaking Gaelic was essential.
Many of these were in teaching and media industries and the launch of the BBC's new Gaelic channel, BBC Alba, is set to increase the numbers, according to the Scotsman.
Iain Campbell, the head of Hecla, said: "There are opportunities across a range of economic sectors which require Gaelic skills and the situation has improved dramatically over the past 15 years."
Mr Campbell also stressed that jobseekers with Gaelic skills needed to be kept better informed about job vacancies that were open to them.
BBC Alba, a partnership between the BBC and MG Alba, was launched on satellite last Friday and will air for seven hours a day.
