FTSE 100 falls over 1% in early trading
The FTSE 100 fell over one per cent in early trading this morning.

At 8:55 GMT, the index was at 4,222.37 – a fall of 33.61 points or 0.79 per cent.

Last night in New York, the Dow Jones was down 1.18 per cent, while in Asia the Hang Seng was down 0.26 per cent and the Nikkei fell 2.37 per cent.

This morning in Europe, markets held firm with the Dax down 0.21 per cent and the Cac 40 down 0.04 per cent.

In London, biggest gain went to gold miner Randgold Resources – rising 3.45 per cent – as the firm was reported to be seeing a 15 per cent drop in supplies of the precious metal.

Liberty International was up 2.90 per cent, hedge fund Man Group rose 2.71 per cent, and Old Mutual gained 2.70 per cent.

BT Group was down 5.94 per cent, Thomas Cook fell 3.63 per cent, Cobham dropped 3.37 per cent and ICAP and Rexam were both down 2.42 per cent.
