FTSE 100  falls 0.62%
The FTSE 100 was down 0.62 per cent this morning at 9:52 BST.

The index stood at 5,338.30 down 33.50, as miners maintained ground but financials took a hit.

Tullow Oil rose 4.92 per cent, Eurasian was up 3.60 per cent, AMEC gained 2.69 per cent, Kazakhmys climbed 2.30 per cent and Anglo American rose 2.28 per cent.

Leading the falls was HBOS – down 2.50 per cent – as traders regained cold feet over financials.

Rolls Royce fell 2.26 per cent, Schroders was down 2.19 per cent, Rexam dropped 2.14 per cent and Aviva lost 2.05 per cent.

Outside the FTSE 100, Persimmon was up 9.88 per cent, despite middling results, while fellow housebuilders Barratt Developments and Taylor Wimpey rose 8.87 per cent and 6.06 per cent respectively.

On the currency markets, sterling was up against the dollar and euro by 0.39 per cent and 0.08 per cent respectively.

£1 is worth $1.86827 and €1.26350.
