The FTSE 100 fell on opening this morning, but has managed to hold on to yesterday's gains.
At 9:42 BST the FTSE 100 was down 0.23 per cent to 5,274.70.
Invensys was up 3.93 per cent on good results, while Royal Bank of Scotland was up 3.29 per cent.
Schroders non-voting stock was up 2.92 per cent and Schroders rose 2.83 per cent on news of Taiwanese expansion.
Whitbread rose 2.53 per cent.
Meanwhile miners continued to take a hit with Eurasian down 8.82 per cent, Ferrexpo falling 4.33 per cent, Xstrata dropping 4.08 per cent and Anglo American sliding 3.67 per cent.
Reckitt Benckiser fell 5.31 per cent.
Last night in New York the markets continued to gather steam with the Dow Jones up 1.85 per cent and the Nasdaq rising 1.2 per cent.
On the continent, the Cac40 was down 0.39 per cent and the Dax rose 0.12 per cent.
