Food and cosmetics sectors 'still recruiting graduates'
11-02-2009
A study has revealed which employment sectors are most likely to be taking on graduate recruits over the next year.
The research, conducted by the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR), discovered that the food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries were expecting to take on 12.9 per cent more graduates.
Recruiter also reports that engineers predict intake will rise by 8.3 per cent, followed by the public sector expectation of three per cent and two per cent from lawyers.
However, despite this, it is expected that for the first time since 2003, job vacancies for graduates as a whole will fall this year.
Carl Gilleard, AGR chief executive, said there are some "silver linings" for graduate jobseekers and that "while no one doubts the seriousness of the current economic downturn, the picture for graduate recruitment, though worrying, could be bleaker".
Graduates looking for a job may wish to try using online recruitment agencies, as the Recruitment and Employment Confederation claims they are good at matching candidates to firms where they will thrive.
