Technology means that many firms have more opportunities to adopt flexible working practices with their employees, it has been claimed.
According to Work Wise UK, in some cases, "we almost treat adults like children at work".
However, by adopting the idea of remote working, productivity and competitiveness can be increased while more trust is placed with employees something which was previously lacking in many companies.
Phil Flaxton, chief executive of Work Wise, said that moving away from the conventional nine to five work routine shows that firms are embracing change.
He continued: "To allow people to be actually managed by output and not input is a real stride forward in changing the way businesses operate."
A recent survey by the Work Foundation discovered that 40 per cent of employees have little or no flexibility with regards to the hours they work.
