Financial workers 'entering public sector employment'
02-04-2009
There has been an increase in the number of people entering public sector employment, according to one organisation.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has also confirmed that self employment is increasing as many people working in the financial sector are finding themselves out of work.
Gerwyn Davis, government policy advisor for the CIPD, believes that time will tell whether or not this is a viable option.
For those who cannot work for themselves, he explained that they are beginning to explore other options: "We are seeing evidence that the likes of the city workers are becoming interested in professions in the public sector such as teaching."
Published at the end of March, the new Confederation of British Industry and PricewaterhouseCoopers Financial Services Survey revealed that numbers employed in the financial services industry fell at their heaviest rate sine June 1993.
