Accountants have joined city traders in threatening to leave their jobs if their bonuses to not meet their expectations, new research has discovered.
Only 22 per cent of the city traders questioned by recruiters Joslin Rowe said that they would be prepared to stay in their job if their bonus did not meet their expectations, down from 38 per cent last year.
However, this year, many accountants said the same thing, with 70 per cent prepared to start looking for a new role if their bonus is not what they are hoping for. This compared to 43 per cent who would look for a new job last year.
Tara Ricks of Joslin Rowe commented: "With the high expectations for bonuses this year, it's no surprise that some people in City are going to be demanding. But expectations were very high last year, despite the fact that bonus season turned out to be a bit of a damp-squib."
Just as city traders became more aggressive about their bonus, they also became less prepared to be proactive to improve their payment, the survey showed. Just ten per cent said they would try to improve their performance if their bonus was disappointing, compared to 21 per cent last year.
