Although the internet has widened access to job opportunities for university leavers, the publishing director at Graduate Prospects claims there is "no substitute" for meeting potential employers face-to-face.
Commenting on recruitment fairs, Jane Rowley suggested that they allow companies to show their "human face", noting that firms often involve their current graduate intake to offer a peer-to-peer overview of the business.
In addition, students are able to directly access recruitment teams in a way that the internet does not allow them to do.
"Many graduates are taking a very professional approach to this," she said, "contacting recruiters before events, sending CVs and making appointments to see people on the stand".
Graduate employers have a wide pool of talent from which to search, with 2,362,815 students enrolled in higher education in the 2006/07 academic year.
