A gap in skilled IT professionals in the UK could lead to more outsourcing, one expert has suggested.
Comments from Martyn Hart, the chairman of the National Outsourcing Association, indicate that the solution to plugging the skills shortage could be along way off, meaning outsourcing will increase in the mean time.
"At present the IT industry is struggling to recruit the next generation to the profession, as the nerdish image of an IT worker puts off many youngsters from entering the industry," he said.
Such an image, he added, will be hard to shake off and require a long-term approach.
Mr Hart stated that the only way to gradually narrow the skills gap is to educate and train the next generation of IT workers.
"British workers should be educated and employed to take the highest level UK IT jobs," he urged employers.
It was recently announced that BT, Microsoft and EDS have collaborated with the Higher Education Funding Council to produce a new masters in IT aimed at replacing the lack of entry-level IT jobs in the UK.
