Jobseekers are able to change the direction of their career due to the number of opportunities available in today's recruitment market, according to an expert.
Director of adult-learner support at the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) Claire Mycock stated that there are a variety of different career paths that exist today.
"There are a lot of opportunities these days and a lot of areas that people go into that probably weren't available when they were at school," she remarked.
IT is "one of the exciting areas" of the job market today, Ms Mycock said, noting that the sector has received a lot of interest from job hunters.
However, many workers may not realise the number of vocations that are now accessible for those people looking for a change of career, she added.
The average advertised salary for IT jobs is now £34,217, representing growth of 4.1 per cent on last year, CV Screen discovered recently.
