The equality bill has been welcomed by one group which works to support women in business.
According to everywoman, the new regulations are an important step in the right direction to achieving a more equal and balanced workplace.
However, Toni Eastwood OBE, training director for the company, claims it is still disappointing that the only way to ensure that male and female employees are paid equally is to name and shame bosses.
She explained that in order to survive the downturn, companies must remain productive and employ the best quality staff they can.
Ms Eastwood added that "offering equal working conditions to both men and women will ensure the best talent is attracted to your company, regardless of their background".
Figures from the Office for National Statistics reveal that at the end of 2008, women's hourly pay was 17.1 per cent less than men's.
