Graduate solicitors can expect to start on a wage on a par with investment bankers, new figures suggest.
According to the latest survey from the Association of Graduate Recruiters, young lawyers and investment bankers are starting on an average yearly wage of £35,500 - over £10,000 above the average graduate's starting salary of £23,500.
Recent figures from Laywer2B.com suggested that graduates working with top firms such as Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer can earn around £38,000, while other top legal firm Allen & Overy pays its new starters £36,200 a year
Furthermore, graduate lawyers are likely to see wage rises of 2.8 per cent during 2008, slightly above the national average wage increase of 2.1 per cent.
Investment bankers are unlikely to see a boost in pay this year.
Considerable salary rises were recorded last year for in-house lawyers, IDS discovered recently.
Average salaries for the role hit £114,658, an increase of 6.8 per cent over the last 12 months.
