British employers have been urged to review their business practices and procedures for 2007 to create a more efficient workplace.
The Forum of Private Businesses (FPB) said that many small and medium-sized firms could potentially increase both profitability and efficiency by looking at their longer-term practices.
Although it was sometimes difficult for employers to find the time to think about the "bigger picture" it could ultimately be rewarding, national chairman Len Collinson said.
He said: "There are many daily distractions, from the necessities of the workplace to unwelcome government red tape. However, time spent looking at the longer term can be most beneficial."
The forum announced that it has produced a new guide called The Complete Business Checklist providing employers with a controlled process for decision-making.
Smaller business owners should look for help from the FPB when creating new appointments or reviewing problems, Mr Collinson added.
