A growing number of employers are looking to recruit candidates via the internet, according to a new report.
Research by Jobcentre Plus found that of the 4,500 employers surveyed, more than a quarter looked to recruit new staff in 2006.
The organisation discovered that last year, 25 per cent of all filled employment vacancies were advertised online and the proportion of all vacancies advertised on the internet increased from 12 per cent in 2004 to 16 per cent in 2006.
Lesley Strathie, chief executive of Jobcentre Plus, said: "This survey demonstrates the continued strength and development of the UK recruitment market."
Earlier in the month, John Abell, senior marketing executive at the University of Warwick students' union, told the Times that organisations looking to recruit graduates should use new technologies.
Mr Abell said that companies should focus on making the application process easier by making their sites more interactive.
