Companies have been urged to do more to help new mums get back into the world of work, it has emerged.
A poll of employees by Monster has revealed that only 44 per cent think that mums are being encouraged by employers to return to the office after pregnancy.
Just 17 per cent of those questioned said they believed their company did everything in their power to support new mums going back to work.
"Despite legislation, there is still a feeling among workers that new mothers do not receive the support in coming back to work that they deserve from their employers," stated Julian Acquari, managing director of Monster UK and Ireland.
Women should look forward to rejoining the workforce and bosses should be doing more to encourage this, he added.
Flexible working schemes have been suggested by several bodies, such as the Trades Union Congress, as one way new mums could ease back into the workplace.
