Employers desire 'network engineers with management skills'
29-01-2008
Employers are looking to hire network engineers who possess project management skills as well as technical expertise, it has emerged.
According to bosses who attended the Cisco Networkers 2008 conference, management skills are increasingly important in the IT sector, ComputerWeekly reports.
Raymond Mohr, the director of IT at Balfour Beatty Rail in Germany, said that IT workers must look to acquire skills "beyond your own little box".
He added that working as a network engineer is no longer just "about monitoring networks and TCP/IP".
Fred Weiller, director of certifications and training at Cisco, remarked that companies are seeking to employ those who show technical ability and project management skills.
"There is a real demand for the network manager who can understand the business requirements and translate those requirements into a network design and delivery plan," he stated.
It was recently reported by Online Recruitment that a Conchango survey discovered IT workers are concerned with finding new and exciting challenges from a new job rather than an improved wage.
