In the run up to the launch of its latest model, car manufacturer Nissan is looking to hire 100 new employees, the Sunderland Echo reports.
The additional workers will join the 300 staff already taken on to fulfil production targets of Nissan's newest design. They will join initially on a temporary contract with potential to be extended.
Around 4,300 people are currently employed at the plant where Nissan's Qashqai family car/4x4 hybrid is being made. The car will be officially available from March 1st and the Sunderland-based plant is already producing more than 1,500 vehicles a week.
Danny Griffiths, Nissan personnel director, told the paper: "The new staff will play a key role in the critical early phase of Qashqai's production and although they are joining on temporary contacts, there is real potential for this to be extended."
By investing in its new model Nissan will ensure the future of 1,000 workers at its Sunderland plant and the car manufacturer hopes that the factory will produce around 140,000 Qashqais per year.
