Communication technology and workplace gadgets are rapidly changing the options open to employees, an expert has discussed.
Renato Bottini, head of business for 3 UK, highlighted how the growing trend towards more versatile communication methods is changing the way in which people work.
Mr Bottini claimed that mobile communication is "of great benefit" to small businesses.
"Older generations are more used to email and standard communication methods, but instant messenger and Skype have been adopted by the younger generation and are now finding their way into standard working practice," he continued.
The UK's current nine million small business employees need to ensure their practices are as "productive and effective" and cost-conscious as possible, the expert added.
According to the results of a recent 3 UK poll, one-fifth of respondents said they would deal with work matters while socialising in the pub, while 13 per cent said they would answer a call during a trip to the doctor.
