The Dow Jones has hit a record high for the second day in a row.
Investor confidence in the market saw the Dow Jones industrial average climb to 12,741.86, a rise of 0.69 per cent.
The previously un-reached levels were helped by comments made by federal chairman Ben Bernanke, who told the country's Senate that the economy is in a recovery state – giving investors further confidence in the US market.
Several company reports have also renewed investor optimism.
Earlier this week, Coca Cola posted its latest financials. Despite the company, the largest beverage bottler in the world, reporting a downturn in profit, its statements were higher than expectations by the market.
Daimler Chrysler impressed investors further after announcing that it would be seeking to turn around its loss-generating US operations. The carmaker intends to bring about the turnaround by axing 13,000 Chrysler jobs.
Transportation and utilities averages were also up on the Dow Jones, marking the first time in nearly ten years that all three averages were up at the same time.
