Mobile customers are increasingly signing on to 3G networks, operator Vodafone has revealed.
Releasing its results for the quarter ending December 31st 2006, the mobile giant announced net additions of 8.7 million customers of which 2.5 million were using 3G enabled devices.
Third generation technology allows mobile devices to access high-speed networks. Customers using 3G mobile phones can access streaming videos, live television, high-speed internet and an increased range of content from their mobile phone.
Announcing the figures, Vodafone also revealed that it had reached a record customer subscription milestone in January 2007.
"I am also pleased to announce today that we now have 200 million proportionate customers globally and we are grateful for their confidence in us," said chief executive Arun Sarin.
"This is both an important milestone for Vodafone and a great achievement by our people."
Also fuelling Vodafone's growth is its increase in revenue from emerging markets. It announced an increase in revenue of 29.7 per cent in Romania, 42 per cent in Egypt and 22.6 per cent in South Africa.
