The contact centre industry is continuing to expand as a job market and has 'come of age' according to leading experts.
First quarter results from recruitment firm Teleresources Consultancy indicate an upturn in the sector, with permanent placements up by more than 40 per cent.
With historical problems regarding recruitment in the sector, particularly the lack of skills for specialist roles, the latest news suggests a shift in the market.
Director Vanessa Forster says she is convinced of a new trend, saying "perceptions surrounding call centre work are changing".
"The industry has 'come of age' with a maturity and recognition that careers need to be supported," she commented.
"There are now clear progression opportunities and as a result, the calibre of candidates pursuing permanent positions has risen notably."
Contact centres have become popular with many industries in the UK, whether domestically based or operating offshore, creating thousands of jobs.
Teleresources, which began in 1996, was one of those firms to focus on the new industry, offering sales, customer service, contact centres and telephone-based recruitment services.
