Construction industry 'still providing work despite recession'
13-01-2009
There are still some opportunities for those working in the construction industry, despite the recession, it has been claimed.
The Construction Industry Council (CIC) believes that the current economic downturn differs from the last recession because there are major projects occurring which are continuing to provide job opportunities.
Therefore, for those in certain sectors, there is still money being spent on developments.
Graham Watts, chief executive of the CIC, said: "What's happening this time is that it's not all companies [that are] going into recession."
He also added that there are still plenty of opportunities "if you're working on motorway construction, railway projects or underground projects".
Other large developments, such as Crossrail and the Olympics are also providing work.
Over the border, homes for Scotland revealed in September that it expected the number of new home completions to be between 12,000 and 15,000 in 2008.
