The majority of companies are continuing with their graduate recruitment schemes despite problems with the economy, it has been suggested.
Elspeth Farrar, communications director for Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS), stated that many firms are wary of opting out of the graduate recruitment market altogether as this could have a detrimental effect on their recruitment efforts in the future.
According to Ms Farrar, in the past companies that withdrew from the graduate recruitment market had to "a lot of ground to make up" with students when they re-entered the sector.
"Most organisations say that they are going ahead, they are honouring any offers and expecting to carry on with recruitment," she remarked.
Data from the Association of Graduate Recruiters Winter Review 2008 showed that 67 per cent of recruiters are expecting problems when hiring new employees this year.
