If you are looking for a job with impressive financial perks you could do worse than head for the City, following news that bonuses in the district have leapt once more for 2007.
Figures show that spring bonuses jumped 30 per cent to sit at a record £14 billion this year, indicative of the fact that City workers continue to attract handsome remuneration in the UK's financial hub.
This increase in bonuses has taken place despite recent financial turmoil and speculation that turbulent market conditions could impact upon bonuses and perhaps even jobs in the future.
Experts at the Centre for Economics and Business Research (cebr) warn that market volatility could lead to a drastic reduction in bonuses and potentially the loss of as many as 5,000 jobs. The cebr also predicts a decline in bonus payouts of some 15 per cent overall.
Large City bonuses have attracted some criticism from various groups on the basis that it is symptomatic of growing pay inequality in the UK.
