CIPD: People must take advantage of opportunities to train
26-03-2009
The continual training and upskilling of employees is vital for the future success of the economy, it has been claimed.
According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), if people can see an opportunity to improve their skill set then they should do so.
This is because it may help to improve their future employability, especially at a time when there are increasing numbers of jobseekers vying for vacancies.
Frances Wilson, human resources adviser at the CIPD, said: "It is not only a short term thing for now while they've got this current economic crisis, but it is a good thing in the longer term, as well, to carry on upskilling."
A government report, entitled Re-skilling for recovery: After Leitch, implementing skills and training policies: Government Response to the First Report from the Committee, Session 200809, states that skills policy is one of the "key factors" in determining how resilient the country is.
