Jobs that focus on the conservation of the environment are likely to receive more funding from the government in the future, it has been claimed.
According to the Charted Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the sector has the potential for millions of jobs to be created and that it could be a good starting point for many people.
Gerwyn Davies, public policy adviser from the CIPD, pointed out that the environmental sector covers many sectors, including engineering.
"It's about matching the skills needed for those jobs [with the right person]," he said.
Mr Davies also pointed out that people in the jobs market need to look towards the future and the type of workers that are likely to be in demand.
The autumn 2008 Labour Market Outlook by the CIPD recently found that 34 per cent of companies surveyed say they will be retaining their total staff levels next year
