Companies are changing their demands when it comes to the skills of IT professionals, according to an insider.
No longer do they come from "classic technical backgrounds", but firms are now putting the emphasis on such skills as the ability to communicate and a knack for business acumen, advised business manager at Hays Information Technology David Atkins.
The firm recently conducted research which found that 47 per cent of businesses responding said a strong awareness of business was an important factor in the recruiting of IT professionals.
Mr Atkins commented: "There is an increase in the need for business savvy from IT heads - for people who are able to present the business case for IT as an enabler."
Last month, recruitment company ReThink recommended that IT freelancers are unlikely to struggle when it comes to finding work during the credit crunch.
