Careers are hindered by babies, say one-third of mothers

Mothers in the UK believe that having a baby has caused setbacks to their careers, a survey discovered.
The poll, undertaken by parent's group Bounty, found that one-third of working mothers think having a baby hinders workplace prospects, the Telegraph reported.
A further 49 per cent of those questioned said they had missed out on promotions and benefits due to taking maternity leave.
Representative for Bounty, Ian Beswetherick said: "The fact of the matter is that many mums work harder than ever before when they return to work as they are afraid to be seen as part-timers."
A positive note, Mr Beswetherick added, is that increasing numbers of mothers are setting up their own businesses.
Last week, an advisor for law firm Allen & Overy said that women may face further discrimination as the government introduces an extension in the benefits available to them.
